Rare sculpture in barbotine by Carrier Belleuse (1848-1913) representing a centauress, rarer representation than the centaur in Greek mythology
This ceramic presents a centauress who reveals her sexual power by bulging her torso. She carries under each arm an amphora held by a drape.
Her body passes over a faun asking for water. It is a very eventful sculpture. The whole is in ochre tones, blue for the amphorae, the base being partly covered by vine branches.
Signed and dated in hollow on the back: CARRIER.BELLEUSE 1895 and HB Choisy le ROI under the piece.
