Pierre Selmersheim, Salon or Bedroom Cabinet
Pierre Selmersheim, Salon or Bedroom Cabinet
Rare and remarkable bedroom or salon cabinet, crafted circa 1905 in ribbed walnut, moulded and finely carved. The drawer fronts and structural frames are meticulously worked with recesses, mouldings, and sculpted motifs in the Coup de fouet spirit, characteristic of the Art Nouveau decorative language. The central pediment is adorned with a rich stylized floral decoration in high relief, emphasizing the refinement and sculptural strength of the piece. The original bronze handles, keyholes, and keys are preserved. Of monumental proportions, this cabinet, originating from a château in the Yonne region, powerfully illustrates Selmersheim’s mastery in the art of furniture, combining architectural rigor with decorative richness. Unique piece, reproduced in the reference work The Paris Salons 1895-1914, Volume III: Furniture by Alastair Duncan, p. 509.
